On New Years, I said I would post a YouTube Video every Tuesday. I had every intention of doing so. Then, life took my art career in a whole new direction, and I couldn’t be more excited about it!
First, I painted this “Fellow Radicals” watercolour painting of Janis Irwin and Bernie Sanders on a whim. I was inspired to do something fun and thematic so I ran a poll on whether I should paint Janis in mittens, or Bernie in mittens. Someone suggested both – and one week later I had raised over $1000 for the NDP and $350 for Operation Friendship Seniors society. It was an amazing opportunity to make a difference with my art and make new connections!
First Solo Show
From February to March, I had my first Feature Artist show at the Spruce Grove Art Gallery (www.alliedartscouncil.com). The theme of the show was “Submerged”, a whimsical watercolour expression based on my love of diving, the ocean, and belief in ocean conservation. Although Covid moved most of it online, we found a way to make it work! I consider it a success and hope the originals that sold find the perfect spot in their new homes.
I will be posting remaining originals in my online shop in the coming months!
A New Opportunity…
One evening I was browsing social media and saw a project that a friend of mine who teaches art had recently completed with her class. Out of curiosity, I checked the local school division for employment opportunities…and there it was. Full time art teacher. Temporary, full time. The dream! I am finally in a place in my life where I feel ready to take it on, so I took the leap and applied.
I started on Tuesday. I can already tell I will love it. I will be challenged, I will learn, I will be inspired, and I hope that my students also experience all three <3
There you have it. That is where I have been. This past 60 days has been a whirlwind, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
